Most people say the Poker Boom began about 8 years ago, in year 2003, when Chris Moneymaker won the WSOP Main Event (World Series of Poker) after having qualified via a $39 satellite tournament on PokerStars which is today the biggest online poker room. From then on the popularity of online poker grew constantly from year to year. There are many factors that contribute to that popularity. There is no doubt, that television is a big factor. TV Shows like Poker after dark with professional poker players like Phil Ivey or Tom Dwan became very famous within short time. The future of poker is unknown but one thing is for sure: people all around the world will continue to enjoy poker much more than at any time in the past.
